Movies: The Golden Globes Highlighted History And Overlooked Facts Of 75 Years

As any big fan of movies and TV would know, the 75th Golden Globe Awards show is airing tonight. Now, I already placed all my bets on I, Tonya winning tonight, which was at first an overlooked movie by many. So, in honor of 75 years, there is some overlooked history that deserves to be looked back at, and in honor of the #TIMESUP (https://www.timesupnow.com) campaign lets take a look at history's first female Golden Globe Winners. 

 

 

Year 1: 

The first Golden Globe Awards were held on January 20, 1944 at 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles, California. At the time there were only six nomination categories along with nominees and little did they know that they were going to change the course of movie history till this the day. 

 

 

Overlooked Facts About The Golden Globes:

 

- The original categories for the Golden Globes in 1944 were Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, Best Director - Motion Picture, Picture, Actress In A Leading Role, and Actor In A Leading Role.

 

- The category Picture, stopped being a category after 1951.

 

- It wasn't until in 1950 that there started being more then one nominee for the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

 

- In 1954 there started to be only one nominee and one winner again until 1957.

 

- 1957 was the first year that there were only five nominations and one winner which was Eileen Heckart.

 

- The category of Best Motion Picture Drama was created in 1952

 

- The category of Promoting International Understanding was first a category in 1946 and stoped being a category after 1964.

 

- The category of Special Achievement Award was first a category in 1947 and stoped being a category after 1993.

 

- In 1948 Best Screenplay - Motion PictureBest Original Score - Motion PictureNew Star Of The Year - Actress, New Star Of The Year - ActorJuvenile Performance, and Cinematography were all introduced as new categories. 

 

- In 1950 the categories of Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language, and Outstanding Use Of Color were introduced.

- In 1952 Best Motion Picture - Drama, and Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy were introduced as new categories. 

 

- In 1955 the Cecil B. DeMille Award was introduced as a category. 

 

 

The First Actresses To Win Golden Globe Awards

 

- The first winner and nominee of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture was Katina Paxinou.

 

- Angela Lansbury was the first actress to have won two awards in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. The first award she won was in 1946 and the second award she received was in 1963.

 

-  In 1954 the first woman to win Best Screenplay - Motion Picture was Helen Deutsch.

 

- The first woman to win Actress In A Leading Role was Jennifer Jones in 1944

 

- The first two women to win Actress In A Television Series - Musical Or Comedy was Carol Burnett and Julie Sommars.

Predictions:

 

- Now, in 2018, the nominees for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture are Mary J. Blige for her role in Mudbound, Hong Chau for her role in Downsizing, Allison Janney for her role in I, Tonya, Laurie Metcalf for her role in Lady Bird, and Octavia Spencer for her performance in The Shape of Water.  

 

My prediction of who is going to win is Allison Janney. 

 

- The nominees in 2018 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are Judy Dench for her role in Victoria and Abdul, Helen Mirren for her role in The Leisure Seeker, Margot Robbie for her role in I, Tonya, Saoirse Ronan for her role in Lady Bird, and Emma Stone for her role in Battle of the Sexes

 

I love all of these actresses, but my prediction of who is going to win is 100% Margot Robbie.

 

- The nominations for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy are The Disaster Artist, Get Out, The Greatest Showman, I, Tonya, and Lady Bird.

 

My prediction of what movie is going to win is I, Tonya.
